Yoga Teacher Training

Part 1: Foundation Course

Yoga in Depth; Building a Personal Practice

This course is for you if you are:

  • Eager to discover more about yoga, having attending several classes

  • Looking to begin a yoga discovery journey that doesn’t include teacher training.

  • or Driven to teach yoga and know a firm foundation will help you get the best out of your teacher training journey to come.

On completion of this course, you’ll gain:

  • Practical knowledge of a range of yoga asana (postures), basic breathing techniques and pranayama (breath control), as well as relaxation and meditation techniques.

  • An understanding of the history of yoga.

  • A deep dive into The Yoga Sutra's of Patajali and The Bagavad Gita. 

  • The ability to plan simple sequences to meet your own needs.

  • A deeper immersion into personal practice and its effects.

  • Our Yoga Foundation Course certificate.

The course curriculum includes:

 

Asana – practicing a range of postures from the eight groups (forward, backward and side bends, twists, balances, inversions, seated and natural spine alignment) with basic sequencing.

 

Basic breathing and pranayama – coordinating breath and movement in postures, three-part breath, nostril or glottis/throat control pranayama with and without the use of ratios.

 

Concentration and relaxation – using focal points of breath, objects and basic mantra to withdraw sensory awareness. Practicing a range of relaxation techniques with visualisation and guided imagery.

 

Mudra and meditation – rotation of consciousness through different parts of the body (yoga nidra), developing sankalpa (positive affirmation) and the use of key hasta (hand) mudras to channel energy flow.

 

Theory – an introduction to yoga philosophy, the Yoga Paths (Raja, Bhakti, Jnana and Karma), and an exploration of Sanskrit terminology and chanting.

This is so much more than a teacher training.  It is a leadership training that will empower you to show up bigger in every area of your life. You will leave our program ready to lead a carefully curated practice, with your own flare and style. No cookie cutter teachers here. Our commitment is in fully supporting you every step along the way in becoming the teacher you are capable of becoming.

We have created a multi style training that honours yoga roots, looks in depth at yoga philosophy and combines modern movement science through a compassionate lense, in order to for you to become a successful and confident teacher.

We will go above and beyond the Yoga Alliance 200h requirements (this will be closer to a 300hr training upon completion) in order to get in all the good stuff, and so you can become a confident, successful teacher.

This empowerment program is about being up to something bigger than yourself. It is a fully comprehensive, and exceptionally impactful 250-hour Hatha & Vinyasa Teacher Training.

This training will be in person, at our Hereford studio and limited to no more than 18 people. â€‹

The Practice

Intro to the different styles of yoga: Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Hot, Restorative.

Detailed 'how to' for 50 different asana and teaching cues, which you will begin to practice teaching from the first weekend.

Inclusive of practice teaching, not only of your peers but assistant and then leading a class at STUDIO 9.

History & Philosophy 

We will learn about Yoga's journey West, and its history through a study of the ancient texts that originated the practice. Learn about the master Yogi gurus who helped spread it across western culture in the 19th and 20th century. Explore the ancient philosophical principals of the Yoga Sutras and how to teach them to students.

Business & Marketing

Not only will we give you the skills to teach a great class, we will explain how to actually set yourself up as a teacher, whether that's part time, full time, online or in person. Including outreach, finding teaching opportunities and marketing yourself. Plus an intro to workshops and courses.

Part 2 of the 250hr YTT is £2250. You can pay in full, 6 or 12 monthly instalments via direct debit, as long as your full fee is paid by the end of September 2025. Your first payment will secure your place. 

Other Costs

You are expected to attend 30 hours of live taught classes (either at STUDIO 9 or another studio/gym) We offer 50% discount on drop in classes and class packs for our trainees. There is also a reading list so purchasing or borrowing them from a library. (lots of yoga teacher facebook groups sell these books second hand)

No payments will be taken for either phase until you have been accepted.

This program is not registered with Yoga Alliance due to ethical conflicts with the organisation. Please note that Yoga is not governed or regulated. Yoga Alliance is not a governing body for Yoga.

You will need a certificate from a yoga school for insurance and job applications, which you will receive upon completion. You can then join the Yoga Alliance registry with this certificate should you wish to do so. Whether or not I am a part of YA is irrelevant to your joining ability. This course goes above and beyond the 200hr hour requirements of a YA training.

You must complete our 50hr Foundation Training before registering, as a lot of the information in the Foundation Training will not be repeated.
